El Portal Hotel

New Sausalito Hotel on El Portal

In 1995, prior to starting the firm, Kathryn Shaffer worked as Project Architect at another Sausalito architectural firm.

One of the projects she co-designed with the firm owner and other staff was the conversion of a mixed use property on El Portal owned by a local building contractor from a mixed use office and residential building into a high end 30-room luxury hotel with a fireplace in each room and views of the bay.

Near the site of the original Northwestern Pacific terminal building (now demolished) and located within Sausalito's Historic District and over some of Sausalito's "underwater" lots, this project intoduced Shaffer to the intricacies of the planning of the City of Sausalito and all of the agencies involved in it's development.
