Rancho La Quinta Raquet Club

In 1993, prior to starting the firm, Kathryn Shaffer worked for a developer's architecture and landscape architecture firm and designed the Racquet Club for a planned residential community in La Quinta, CA.  The building design used heavy timber scissor trusses  with open air arcades and verandas  was based on the proportions and theories depicted in Letarouilly's Edificies De Rome Moderne, a book documenting the architecture of Rome in 1840 (the basis for Spanish Colonial style). The building includes an exercise room, locker room, the club grill, the pro shop, and storage facilities for an adjacent pool.
