Land Planning and Consulting

Rancho La Quinta

Rancho La Quinta

In 1993-1994, prior to starting the firm, Kathryn Shaffer was Project Architect and Planner at Robert Lamb Hart, Planners, Architects & Landscape Architects for a PUD on a little over a half a of section of land in the Coachella Valley that was taken over by The Drummond Company.

The master plan, originally approved decades earlier by another firm, was for over 400 detached single family homes  ("Haciendas") and over 90 duplexes ("Casitas") planned around a Robert Jones Golf Course and a Racquet Club (including a fitness center). A second similar development was planned for the central coast but cancelled in 1994.

Hart, founder of Hart Krivatsy and Stubee in 1967, worked with Disney on master plans for Lake Buena Vista, with Florida Gas Company on Orangewood, FL, with St. Simons Properties on the Triangle Planning Area in GA in 1973 (below),  and on the Daytona Beach Downtown Development Authority project in 1975 to name a few as well as studies on adaptive reuse of industrial sites and established neighborhoods throughout the US.  Working for Hart was a great opportunity to develop the planning skills Shaffer learned during school at the KSU College of Architecture Planning and Design.
